The Captain

Go #4!!!

Even though I'm still hobbling around and can't walk far...especially in grass, I've managed to make it to two of Jessica's soccer games (thanks to the hubby rolling me around in the wheelchair).  She has been playing soccer about 7 years now and this year she is one of the Team Captains!  Let me tell you, she does take that title seriously too.  She got hurt one night and had to leave practice early.  I'm not sure if she was more upset about being hurt, or thought she had failed the team because the captain got hurt!

This is our first experience with a competitive travel team, and so far I think it is a great benefit for these girls.  Especially if they plan to use this skill for a scholarship in the future.  I can say that in the past few seasons I have seen Jessica coming out of her shell and really getting her body into this game.  She is starting to really play it smart too and is not letting her fear of getting hurt or hurting someone else get in her way.  We've tried to help her know that if this is the sport she wants to play, you've got to dig in and play tough.  Soccer is a contact sport and people will tumble...preferrably the other team!  Above you see her throwing the ball in toward the end of the game.  They did a good job in that game playing on the other side of the field instead of our side of the field!  No, they didn't win, but they worked so well together and did a great job!!

Speaking of Jessica, she has been a most excellent helper for me since the surgery.  I couldn't have asked for more from her!  As a matter of fact, I was recently chatting with one of the mom's on THL about a post from her in which she was needing advice on how to get her teenagers (like 15 yo) to pitch in and do a better job of helping to clean.  I was so proud to be able to say that my 12 yo daughter (and my 8 yo daughter) can help me get a house clean in no time and have been able to take over for me during this down time.
Now let me tell you though, it didn't happen over night.  A ton of prayers to the good LORD above have been shot to the sky in hopes that I will be able to show them what it takes to keep a home.  I'm not perfect...and don't keep a perfect house.  Life buzzes by and things get messy, and discombobulated!  Showing my kids the basics of life now will be so much easier on them in their adult years.  I have been shown the potential of my children and I am hopeful and so very proud of them!

My kids are such a blessings to me.
