I'm Thankful #4

Today I can say I'm thankful for my wood-burning Buck Stove.  I haven't always been thankful for it!  Way back when I was being tested for allergies, and it was a common thing to see me walking around with tissue up my nose, I HATED that noisy, messy, dust creating machine!!!  I hated Winter because I knew that I would have to endure the thing that made me sneeze, irritated my eyes, closed off my bronchial tubes so that I felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest, and the mess!!!  Oh, the mess!!!!  I would beg my husband for us not to have that thing running constantly in the Winter...sometimes the begging worked, sometimes it didn't.

However, since my allergies no longer bother me like they did way back then, I have learned to tolerate and have come to love my fire.  I think the King Bee also likes that he doesn't have to worry with it anymore as well. ;)  It's a good skill to have to know how to build a fire...and the brood loves to help me do it!!!  B3 will jump around like a cave girl saying "Mommy make fire!!!! Can we roast marshmallows???!!!!"  I have a goal to one day cook something other than marshmallows. :)

We've had some pretty cold nights already this Fall and I've had a fire going for several days.  It's really nice when you've got a cold, or the flu like B1 does right now, to sit in front of it and warm your body up when you get the chills.  It's also relaxing after a busy day to sit next to it with a good book, or yarn in hand, a favorite drink, and recharge while letting all the stress of the day burn off.  Oh, and let's not forget the cost savings on the electric bill!  As long as King Bee can continue to chop all the wood, I'm confident I can keep the house comfortable even if the electricity is out.

So now I look forward to Winter and the cold weather. It's become a time for me to create memories with my brood that are special, and will keep our souls warm for a lifetime.
