At last, there they are!

When we walked into the office, no one knew exactly what they would look like. Would they be green? Would they be purple? Would they be the right size? Would they look normal? As the nurse took off the bandages, or what looked more like a wad of toilet paper, I could only imagine the image we were about to witness and was trying to prepare my psyche for what was sure to be a shock. As the nurse took the last part of the bandage off, I believe my heart skipped a beat in the anticipation I’ve held on to for days now. At last, there they are!! My god, it’s FRANKENFEET!!!

I couldn’t believe my eyes, they are what I’ve always dreamed of…and more! Despite their grotesque colors of mixed green, purple, and blue; underneath the swollen mass of flesh, there are PERFECT feet!! Thanks to doctor T., my feet are ALIVE!!!

As you can tell, yesterday’s doctor visit went very very well…or I’m having that long awaited breakdown! Doctor T. is very happy with the x-rays, which show that the bones, plates, and pins are still in place AND STRAIGHT, and the wound sites are healing well. They also took out the stitches and let me tell you, IT HURT!!!! I thought I was going to squeeze Phillip’s hand off! It was OK at first but the closer she got to the toes, the more it hurt. I was literally sweating when it was all done and over with and my heart was racing a mile a minute. I don’t blame the nurse though; she was as gentle as she could be. My feet are very sensitive so clipping those stitches so close to my skin just put me into sensory overload!

Once Doc T. reviewed the x-rays she decided that I needed to be in casts for the next month to promote proper healing of the already straight bones. After that I’ll spend another few weeks in that black orthotic boot that you see all the clumsy people wearing. All in all though, I am very happy with the results so far. OK, let me show you exactly what I'm so excited about.

Before!!! I am actually missing two tiny bones called sesamoids. My bunions had actually became so bad as to start forming a hammer toe condition. How in the heck was I ever walking to begin with??!!!

AFTER! Are they not perfect?!!!! I can't believe my feet actually look normal, save the metal additions.

I might have Frankenfeet now, but it is much better compared to the Quasimodofeet I had before! The one benefit from being in two casts that I can see so far is that the “shoe” that I have to wear when I’m walking in the casts has that infamous “rocker” bottom like you see on the new miracle shoes that are suppose to help you loose weight! No joke, since having to walk in them the back of my thighs and buttocks are sore!!! How about that, sitting on, but toning up my rear at the same time!! Who’d a thunk it!!!
I got a blue cast on the left for my only lefty boy and pink for my girls. As you can see they have already had some fun drawing and writing their names. Anyway, I’ll keep you updated as to the events surrounding my new feet and how they are coming along…Happy Trails!

  2. I need to have that done, too! I'm sure it will be worth it. Happy healing! Following from THL.
